Public health needs to
be strengthened. There is no denying about it and this is the reason why there
has been alarmist engagement and flurry of business activities in both private
and public sector. It appears that ‘All deserve healing’ is
finally going to be embodied now.
But the question is ‘how?’
Almost a decade ago,
during another pandemic, British Medical Journal (BMJ) unraveled [1]
a host of uncomfortable facts: many govts across the world spent huge sums of
money to stockpile a particular anti-influenza drug while there were no studies
that showed their efficacy. Most of the
trials of this drug were funded by the pharma companies. There was no evidence
that undoubtedly proved that this drug actually
reduced the complications, rate of hospitalisation and the risk of death. Some
ghost-written articles on the efficacy of such drugs appeared in some journals,
but most of the time the request for making research data public were summarily
rejected by the pharma companies.
We came to know about
these facts from the BMJ editorial [2]
written by Peter Doshi, the senior Editor and co- authored by the present
executive editor. They were of opinion that there was also a brighter side of
this saddening story. Evidences on the efficacy of drugs must be reliable and
credible and the sordid attempt to hide the true results from the researchers
as well as the public has caused a huge outcry. By then, the honesty and
integrity in medical research has already been on the decline. Nonetheless, the
public faith in medical research has not vanished altogether and serious minded
people has started taking the onus of restoring public faith in medical
science.
But, public memory is short lived.
Therefore, the same decade-old errors
are being repeated. There is no transparency in the on-going trials for
various Covid vaccines or therapeutics. Data is scarce or completely absent, or
even worse - they were manipulated. Taking a hard look at this impropriety, the
editors of BMJ has expressed their deep anguish and put it bluntly, “The
purpose of regulators is not to dance to the tune of rich global corporations
and enrich them further; it is to protect the health of their populations.”
Pfizer is one of the “ least trusted”
company that had started trial on Covid vaccine. The third party research
organization hired by them was entrusted with the responsibility of preserving
all the data. That this so called research company was complicit with tampering
of data has been exposed by BMJ. Pfizer has proven track record of committing
offence and pleading guilty. Even they had to cough up 2.5 billion US $ in a
case of fraudulent practice. Astra-zeneca or Jhonson & Jhonson were not
unblemished in the past. Bigger the corporation, larger was the size of
corruption. Nevertheless, nothing could deter them from vitiating the arena of
public health. On the contrary, these unscrupulous corporations have become the
epitome of modern health care.
Pfizer has announced that their trial is
due to end around May, 2023 and they will not release any trial data,
regardless of the gravity of request, before May. 2025. Moderna says that some
dataset may be available once the trial is complete by October, 2022. Astra
Zeneca reiterated that actual release of data may take as long as one year from
the date of submission of request. The American regulator which is primarily
the custodian of all theses trial data never pro-actively publish them. The
controversy was dragged to the court. They pleaded that they could, obviously
after censoring and screening the sensitive pieces, release 500 pages of data
every month.
The District Court Judge of USA has
staunchly ordered them to release data at a rate of 55000 pages every month. It
has clearly annoyed the FDA but captivated the general public. But that did not
offer much headway for the researchers. They are still left with no choice but
to depend on the extent of data published in various journals. But, independent
researchers think that relying solely on the published clinical trial data as the
basis of health care decisions is far from being correct. No matter which
prestigious journal publishes the clinical trial report, it’s validity should
be weighed against the conflict of interest of authors sponsored by the pharma
co. What is needed more is the independent and unbiased scrutiny of raw data.
Any dithering on this issue is unjustified.
But, what is the point
of referring to the editorial of BMJ? We know, before accepting any drug, vaccine or devices which claim to
be beneficial for the public, we must not forget the first principle of medical
science- Primum Non Nocere. It is
more so because we are well aware of the fact that there are many vices hidden
in the practice of modern medical science that unnecessarily beset the lives of
otherwise healthy people. The Pharma empire makes us oblivious of morality and
inculcate in the minds of the masses, most weird and bizarre ideas about
wellness, disease , virus and vaccines.
On the other hand, even though we have achieved our freedom after waging bitter
struggle spanning more than hundred years, our minds are still so enchained
that the pharma giants can easily invade our consciousness and build a new
colonial empire. When we get back to our senses, it is already too late.
In this grandiose
feat which are ostensibly happening for public good, the big-wigs of
medical profession, the heavyweights of pharma industry and technocrats are
calling the shots. They are extremely knowledgeable but their knowledge is so
explosive that it radiates more heat
than light. It is true that the common men were often hurt, humiliated and
devastated by the omissions and commissions of this knowledgeable class. The
uneducated class never was complicit with this crime that degraded the human
society in the past.
Our colonial mindset
precludes the basic understanding that public health is best taken care of by
the public health experts. They are knowledgeable too, but they are devoid of
glitz and glamour and that is precisely the reason why they are forced to
remain vigilant to the reality. They can look at the horizon of public health
with uncluttered vision. They are not unmindful of the fact that the menace of
seasonal flu is a natural phenomenon. They always remind us to focus more on
the natural factors and principles as opposed to being engaged in the theatre
of absurd.
It is primarily due to
the fact that the protective forces awarded by the nature has always been much
more potent. Virus induced immunity is
far more powerful and durable than technologically derived safeguard against
viral infection. The public health experts alone have in-depth knowledge about
the rickety public health system. They are more adept with analysing the vital
data on disease and demography. It is their study that informed us that the
median infection mortality of Covid 19 was as low as 0.05%.
From the analysis [3]

of ex WHO scholar and researcher, Dr. David Bell, we came to know that the
fear campaign on the surging covid death
run by WHO was hyped and was mostly exaggerated at the behest of the pharma
industries that funded WHO. This is a case in point that teaches us that WHO
guidance is often not worth emulating.
Of late, they are
clamouring for One World, One Health. As a matter of fact, there exists no such
thing as one health in this world. There could be no flawless and immaculate
definition of health either. People living in various parts of the world
improvise their own health goal depending on the regional factors, life style
and cultural patterns. This is their inalienable right and freedom of choice that no colonial power
can snatch away in the name of protecting health. If it comes to happen, it
will be encroaching my independence and sovereignty of my country. The thing
that does not augur well is that the mischievious colonial forces are now
co-habiting with the government of our country. Therefore, the grand strategy
is afoot to place a new National Health
Bill. The govt pretends to be having no
other option than submitting to the colonialist’s foray into public health.
Let’s keep our finger crossed and wait for
the dark night to pass over.
Here, we are tired of
watching arrogant and impudent belief system that has endorsed mindless
bungling and blatant mischief. So we have come to a breaking point where we
realise that it is nearly impossible for those who are at the helm of our
public health, to adhere to a just, legitimate and principled system.
Consequently, do we have any other option left than saying a resounding NO to this
treaty and the corresponding legislative and executive decisions ?

जन स्वास्थ्य को मजबूत करने की जरूरत है। इससे इनकार नहीं किया जा सकता है और यही कारण है कि निजी और सार्वजनिक दोनों क्षेत्रों में खतरनाक ढंग से व्यावसायिक गतिविधियां और हड़बड़ी मची हुई है। ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि 'ऑल वर्थ हीलिंग' आखिरकार अब सन्निहित होने जा रहा है। लेकिन सवाल है 'कैसे?

हमारी औपनिवेशिक मानसिकता इस बुनियादी समझ को खत्म कर देती है कि सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य विशेषज्ञों द्वारा सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य की सबसे अच्छी देखभाल की जाती है। वे ज्ञानी भी हैं, लेकिन वे चकाचौंध और ग्लैमर से रहित हैं और यही कारण है कि वे वास्तविकता के प्रति सतर्क रहने के लिए मजबूर हैं। वे सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य के क्षितिज को स्पष्ट दृष्टि से देख सकते हैं। वे इस तथ्य से बेखबर नहीं हैं कि मौसमी फ्लू का खतरा एक प्राकृतिक घटना है। वे हमेशा हमें याद दिलाते हैं कि बेतुके रंगमंच में लगे रहने के बजाय प्राकृतिक कारकों और सिद्धांतों पर अधिक ध्यान केंद्रित करें।
