[কোভিডকালে সারা পৃথিবীজুড়ে বামপন্থীদের ভূমিকা ঠিক কেমন ছিল? কতটা তারা জনগণের পক্ষে ছিলেন? বিশ্বের নব্য শাসক শ্রেণীকে তারা কি সত্যিই চিনতে পেরেছেন? নাকি সচেতন বা অবচেতন ভাবে তারা শাসক শ্রেণীর আখ্যান কে ই সমর্থন করলেন? সারা পৃথিবী যখন বৃহৎ পুঁজির নবতম আক্রমণের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদে মুখর, তখন তারা কেন কার্যত নিষ্ক্রিয় রইলেন? এই প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর খুঁজতে একটি প্রবন্ধ ছাপা হয়েছিল ইংল্যান্ডের লেফট লকডাউন স্কেপটিক ওয়েবসাইটে। শিরোনাম ছিল দ্য লেফট এন্ড কোভিড। লেখাটির দ্বিতীয় কিস্তির একটি অংশের স্বচ্ছন্দ অনুবাদ এটি।]

শাসক শ্রেণী কে? এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতে গিয়ে বামেদের পা এখনো পচা ডোবা তে আটকে যায়। তাই তাদের দৃষ্টিগোচর হয় না যে বিশ্বের নব্য ধনিক সমাজের চেহারাটাই পাল্টে গেছে এবং কোভিক প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে তারা তাদের ক্ষমতার ভিত কে অনেক বেশি মজবুত করে নিয়েছে। বামপন্থীরা যেমন ভাবে ভাবে, তার থেকে অনেকটাই আলাদা প্রকৃত শাসক শ্রেণীর চেহারা। এমনকি তারা যেমনটা কল্পনা করে থাকে, শাসক শ্রেণীর আসল চেহারাটা তার থেকেও অনেক বেশি ভয়ঙ্কর।

আধিপত্যকামী শ্রেণীর প্রতীক মানেই চুরুট হাতে কোন মাতব্বর গোছের লোক। বামপন্থীদের এই সেকেলে ধারণাটা আজ একেবারেই অপ্রাসঙ্গিক, বিশেষত যখন পৃথিবীর কয়েকশো কোটি মানুষের জীবন এবং মৃত্যুর নিয়ন্ত্রণের ক্ষমতা চলে গেছে কতিপয় ধনুকবের এবং তাদের তাবেদার যন্ত্র কুশলী বা টেকনোক্রাট দের হাতে। জৈব নিরাপত্তার প্রশ্নে বাতিকগ্রস্থ রাষ্ট্রগুলি এখন মহাজনি শক্তির দূর নিয়ন্ত্রিত পুতুলে পরিণত হয়েছে। এই শ্রেণি শুধুমাত্র ই শ্রমিকদের উদ্বৃত্ত শ্রম শোষণ করে আধিপত্য বজায় রাখছে- এ কথাটাই একমাত্র ধ্রুব সত্য, এটা ভেবে নেবার কোন কারণ নেই।

এই প্রেক্ষিতে, সেভাবে বলতে গেলে, ডাভোসের চক্রী দের থেকে শুরু করে তাদের আসল মালিক পর্যন্ত নানা সম্পর্কের জালে জড়িয়ে থাকা প্রতিটি ব্যক্তিত্ব, সংগঠন, প্রতিষ্ঠান এবং কোম্পানি সবাইকেই শ্রেণী শত্রু হিসেবে নজর করতে হবে। শ্রেণী শত্রুদের তালিকায় অবশ্যই থাকতে হবে এন এইচ এস বা জাতীয় স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবা এবং বি বি সির মতো  শাসকের দুগ্ধবতী পবিত্র গাভীদের। গত ২০২১ সালের প্রায় সমস্ত গণ-বিক্ষোভের মূলে ছিল অর্থনৈতিক ইস্যু। আন্দোলনকারীরা যথার্থই বুঝে নিয়েছিলেন যে দেশের জনগণের বিরুদ্ধে যে যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে তার প্রধান দুটি অস্ত্র হচ্ছে মিডিয়া এবং স্বাস্থ্য বিভাগের প্রশাসন।

এখানে স্বাস্থ্য ক্ষেত্রের বিষয়টা বিশেষভাবে প্রাসঙ্গিক। এর কারণ, ব্রিটেনের জাতীয় স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবার মহিমা কীর্তন এবং জনমানসে তার সুখ্যাতি জিইয়ে রাখার বিশেষ দায়িত্ব বর্তে ছিল বামেদের উপর। রাষ্ট্র নিয়ন্ত্রিত মিডিয়া যেভাবে এই এনএইচএসকে রক্ষা করার পক্ষে সওয়াল করছিল, সেটা নিশ্চয়ই এই বামেদের কাছে খুবই শ্রুতি-নন্দন ছিল। তাই তালি ও থালি বাজিয়ে সেসব সমর্থনের উদ্যোগ মাঝে মাঝেই চোখে পড়তো। কোভিড কালে এন এইচ এস যে অত্যন্ত কুৎসিত ভূমিকা পালন করতে পারে বা পেরেছে এইরকম কোন ভাবনাই বামপন্থীদের কল্পজগতে   স্থান পায় না। বরং বলা যায়, এমন ভাবনা তাদের কাছে বিজাতীয় এবং বিপরীত-মুখী।

এন এইচ এস সম্পর্কে বামেরা যে মহান একটি ধারণা পোষণ করেন তারই সম্প্রসারিত রূপ হচ্ছে বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থা বা সংক্ষেপে হু।  এই হু এর কর্ম পদ্ধতিতে সামান্যতম সন্দেহ প্রকাশ করা বা তাকে তীক্ষ্ণভাবে পর্যালোচনা করা- এসব বামপন্থীদের মধ্যে প্রায় দেখাই যায় না।

তথাপি, হু এখন আন্তর্জাতিক স্তরে ফার্মাসিউটিক্যাল ইন্ডাস্ট্রির আজ্ঞাবহ প্রতিনিধি, ঠিক যেমন ন্যাটো হচ্ছে অস্ত্র ব্যবসায়ীদের প্রতিনিধি। জনমানসে হয়তো ধারণা আছে যে সাদা কোট পরিহিত হু এর বাক্যবাগীষ প্রতিনিধিরা মোটেই বিপদজনক নয়। যদিও বাস্তব সত্য তার থেকে অনেক দূরে। হু এখন বর্তমান শাসক শ্রেণীর বিশ্বব্যাপী ক্ষমতা বিস্তারের অন্যতম প্রধান চাবিকাঠি।

 

বামেদের কাছে টিকাকরণ কর্মসূচি হচ্ছে এমন একটি জনকল্যাণমূলক কর্মসূচি যা সমস্ত সন্দেহের ঊর্ধ্বে অবস্থান করে। তারা মনে করে জামার হাতা গুটিয়ে টিকার জন্য নিজেকে সমর্পণ করা আসলে একটি কমরেড সুলভ কর্তব্য। সেই সঙ্গে মাঝে মাঝে তাদের চিৎকৃত বিলাপও শোনা যায় যে বিশ্বের দরিদ্রতম অংশে বড় বেশি ভ্যাকসিনের অসাম্য চলছে।

বামেদের এই সংকীর্ণ ধারণার জন্যই তারা শাসক শ্রেণীর প্রচারের সঙ্গে অঙ্গাঙ্গী ভাবে মিশে গেছে। জলবায়ু নিয়ে আপৎকালীন পরিস্থিতি এবং ট্রান্স লিবারেশন এর মত দুটি মানবতাবিরোধী শাসক শ্রেণীর এজেন্ডা যা জনগণকে আরো বেশি বিভ্রান্ত এবং বিপন্ন করে তোলার জন্য প্রচার করা হচ্ছে তার সঙ্গে বামেরা যে কিভাবে ভিড়ে গেল, সেটাই আশ্চর্যের।

বামেদের বিরোধিতা এখনো খুব ছোট ছোট বৃত্তের মধ্যেই আটকে রয়েছে। তারা মনে করে ছোট ছোট উদীয়মান হিটলার কে বিরোধিতা করলেই চলমান নাৎসিবাদকে চূর্ণ-বিচূর্ণ করে ফেলা যাবে। তাই বামেরা তাদের প্রচারমূলক অভিযানের সমস্ত শক্তি ক্ষয় করে এমন সব ইসুতে, যা কোন না কোন গোষ্ঠী বা উপ গোষ্ঠীর স্বার্থের পক্ষে যায় । এদের কোন কাজ কর্মই শাসক শ্রেণীর বুকে কাঁপন ধরায় না, বরং তাদের কাছে হাস্যকৌতুক বলে মনে হয়।

 

কোভিডকালে মানুষ দেখেছে শাসক শ্রেণীর ক্ষমতার নগ্ন রূপ। সামাজিক, রাজনৈতিক  আধ্যাত্মিক এবং নাগরিক প্রতিষ্ঠান সকলেই শাসক শ্রেণীর কাছে হয় সটান শুয়ে পড়েছে বা তাদের কুকর্মের সঙ্গী হয়েছে। চার্চ, সিনেগগ্, মন্দির এবং মসজিদ- সবাই তাদের হুকুমে প্রার্থনার দরজা বন্ধ করে দিয়েছিল এবং কখনো বা খুলেছিল - তাও কড়া মাস্ক-রীতি এবং অন্যান্য কোভিড বিধি মেনে নিয়েই। কেউ কেউ তো আবার টিকাকরণের জন্য তাদের প্রাঙ্গণের দরজা পর্যন্ত খুলে দিয়েছিল। ট্রেড ইউনিয়নগুলিও শাসক শ্রেণির এই আখ্যানে পোঁ ধরে ছিল। রাষ্ট্র নির্দেশিত স্বাস্থ্য-নিরাপত্তার পাচন গেলাতে এবং লকডাউনকে মাঠে ময়দানে কার্যকর করতে তারা কোমর বেঁধে নেমেছিল। চ্যারিটি সংস্থাগুলোর মধ্যে তহবিল জোগাড় করার ধুম পড়ে গিয়েছিল এবং আদর্শ নাগরিক হিসেবে কেন সকলের টিকা নেওয়া উচিত সেইসব প্রচারে তারা অতি ব্যস্ত হয়ে পড়েছিল। তাদের এই টিকার পক্ষে প্রচারে সামিল হয়েছিল মানবতাবাদী সংগঠনগুলো। শুধু বেপাত্তা হয়ে গিয়েছিল জি পি বা সর্বসাধারণের চিকিৎসকরা।

 

সারা পৃথিবী জুড়ে প্রতিবাদীরা যখন শাসক শ্রেণীর এই আক্রমণের বিরুদ্ধে বীরত্ত্বপূর্ণ প্রতিরোধ রচনা করছে, সেই সময় বামপন্থীরা তাদের আন্দোলনের বরশা মুখ নামিয়ে রেখে, নতজানু হয়ে উল্টো দিকে তাকিয়ে ছিল। তাদের জন্য শাসক শ্রেণী যে কর্তব্য নির্ধারণ করে দিয়েছিল তারা সেটাই নিঃসংকোচে করে গেছে। লকডাউনকে জনগণের মধ্যে কিভাবে নিশ্ছিদ্র-উপায়ে বলবৎ করতে হয়, রাষ্ট্রের সহায়ক হিসেবে সেই সংগঠনিক দক্ষতা তারা দেখিয়েছে। লৌহ কঠিন কোভিড বিধি পালনে যাতে জনগণের মধ্যে কোন শিথিলতা না আসে সেই ব্যাপারে তারা পূর্ণ সজাগ ছিল। এবং একই সঙ্গে এই বিধি নিয়মের বিরুদ্ধে যারাই সরব হয়েছিলেন তাদের আধুনিক কালের জাতিবিদ্বেষী এবং দক্ষিণপন্থী বলে দাগিয়ে দিতে বামপন্থীরা কসুর করেননি।

এটা ভেবে বিস্মিত হতে হয় যে কোভিড কালে বামেদের এই হতশ্রী রূপ কেন দেখতে হল? এর জন্য কি শুধুই তাদের সেকেলে ধ্যান-ধারণা এবং সরল মনের বিশ্বাস প্রবণতা দায়ী? দুঃখজনক হলেও এটা সত্যি যে আসল কারণটা অনেক গভীরে এবং সেটা মারাত্মক। অসংখ্য বাম ঘরানার প্রতিষ্ঠান এবং সংগঠন তাদের ঘোষিত আদর্শের সম্পূর্ণ বিপরীত স্বার্থের কব্জায় চলে গেছে। এরকম অনেক সংগঠন বা প্রতিষ্ঠানের মাথায় যারা বসে আছেন বা ভীষণ প্রভাবশালী বলে পরিচিত তারা জেনেশুনেই জনতার পক্ষে কথা বলছেন না। তাহলে কিভাবে তাদের সমকালীন বিচিত্র এবং বিকৃত কর্মসূচি গুলো ব্যাখ্যা করা সম্ভব?

আসলে পচন টা ধরেছিল অনেক আগেই। কোভিডের সঙ্গেই তার সূত্রপাত হয়েছে, এটা ঠিক নয়। তার আগেও অনেক বছর ধরেই প্রবণতাটা চলে আসছিল। প্রশ্ন উঠেছিল, কেন তাদের কর্মীরা ক্রমেই বদলে যাওয়া নানা ধরনের ইস্যুতে নিজেদের শক্তি ক্ষয় করে?

তারা যদি বিপ্লবে বিশ্বাসী হয়ে থাকে, তবে তাদের মধ্যে এত গোষ্ঠীর উপস্থিতি কেন? তারা এত একমুখী প্রচারকার্য এবং গোষ্ঠীগত স্বাধীনতার দাবিতে বিচলিত হয় কেন? সর্বোপরি, আমাদের বর্তমান বিশ্বের সর্বোচ্চ ক্ষমতার অধিকারী যে ব্যাংকিং এবং ফিনান্স ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে, তার বিরুদ্ধে একটি শক্তিশালী রাজনৈতিক প্রতিরোধ গড়ে তুলতে তারা ব্যর্থ হয়েছে কেন? তাদের এই মৌলিক ব্যর্থতার প্রেক্ষিতে তাদের অন্য সমস্ত বিচার বিবেচনা এবং দাবিগুলো কি হাওয়ায় মিলিয়ে যায় না?

 

লর্ড অ্যাকশন যিনি বলেছিলেন “ক্ষমতা দুর্নীতি পরায়ণ হবেই এবং চূড়ান্ত ক্ষমতা চূড়ান্তভাবেই দুর্নীতিগ্রস্ত হয়”, সেই দার্শনিক এবং রাজনৈতিক চিন্তাবিদ আজকের সময় বেঁচে থাকলে হয়তো আর একবার বলতেন, “ যে মূল বিষয়টা শতাব্দীর পর শতাব্দী ধরে বহমান সমাজের চালিকাশক্তি হিসেবে কাজ করছে এবং যার বিরুদ্ধে আজ হোক বা কাল যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করতেই হবে সেই বিষয়টা হচ্ছে জনগণ বনাম ব্যাংকিং পুঁজি”। এই কথার একেবারে শেষে যদি আমরা একটা ছোট্ট লাইন জুড়ে দিই, জনগণ বনাম স্বাস্থ্য নিরাপত্তার নামে রাষ্ট্রযন্ত্রের আক্রমণাত্মক প্রকল্প, তবে বোধহয় আজকের পৃথিবীর প্রতিবাদ আন্দোলনের একটি অভিমুখ সুনিশ্চিতভাবে নির্দেশিত হয়। তাহলে প্রশ্ন উঠবে, এই আন্দোলনে বামেদের “কি করিতে হইবে?”  এই যে আমরা প্রশ্ন তুলছি বর্তমান বিশ্বের শ্রমিক শ্রেণীর অভ্যুত্থানে বামেদের কি কোন ভূমিকা থাকতে পারে? বামেদের উত্তরে ভ্রান্তি-বিলাস আসলে প্রশ্নটাকেই খারিজ করে দেয়।

WHO is the ruling

class?

The Left is stuck in a rut with its ideas about the ruling

class and has failed to comprehend the characteristics of

the new global elite system which has consolidated its

grip on power during the covid programme. The real

ruling class is not what the Left thinks it is and it is much

worse than it can imagine.

 

The atavistic Left image of the boss – a cigar-puffing

Bradley Hardacre type – is irrelevant in an age where

power over the life and death of billions is wielded the

obedient technocrats of the biosecurity state serving a

remote money-power elite – an elite which does not

necessarily require the labour of exploited workers to

sustain its privileged position, or at least not as many.

 

In this context, the class enemy is present in every

individual, organisation, company and institution that

connects back up the chain to the Davos conspirators and

their ultimate masters. This includes sacred British cows

like the BBC and the NHS. The mass protests of 2021

were totally on the money – they understood that the

media and the health sector were being used to wage war

against the people of the country.

 

The health sector point is pertinent. The heroic age of the

NHS’s foundation sustains its reputation, especially on the

Left, to this day. State-media exhortations to save the NHS

fell into eager ears. Clapping and pan-bashing was

common. The idea that the NHS played a malign role

during the covid period is antithetical to Left thinking.

The golden conception of the NHS proceeds by extension

to the World Health Organisation, which is rarely subject

to critical treatment or even mild scepticism as to its

motives.

 

Yet the WHO is the international representative agency of

the pharmaceutical industry just as NATO is to the arms

industry. People might imagine that it’s the Council of

Elrond in lab coats but there is nothing benign about the

WHO. It is an instrument of global ruling class power.

Vaccination programmes, meanwhile, are regarded on the

Left as an indubitable public good and rolling up your

sleeve a comradely duty, though not without a spasm of

concern for the victims of vaccine inequality in the global

south.

The narrow conception the Left has of the ruling class

means that it is easily co-opted into supporting ruling

class narratives that a proper Left would have no truck

with, such as the ‘climate emergency’ or ‘trans liberation’,

two anti-human, ruling-class agendas designed to

immiserate and confuse the masses.

 

Left resistance still largely confines itself to the usual

small group of targets, typically the ‘boss class’ and the

Tories. As if the Tories or any government is ever really in

charge! Railing against the Tories is like trying to smash

Nazism by taking on the Hitler Youth. When the targets

aren’t structural entities like boss classes or political

parties, Left campaigning energy is directed towards the

liberation of sectional interests and groups, political

positions that are not properly Left at all but species of

extreme liberalism. None of this activity makes the ruling

class tremble, much of it makes it laugh.

 

During the covid period, the people were left utterly

exposed to the raw power of the ruling class. All the

intermediary social, political, spiritual and civic

institutions melted away or revealed themselves to be

collaborators. Churches, synagogues, temples and

mosques suspended worship and re-opened with strict

mask requirements. Some even turned over their premises

for the injection programme. Trade unions fell in step with

the narrative, maxing out on a state-sanctioned health and

safety binge and helping enforce the lockout on the

ground. Charities overlaid their fundraising drives with

good citizen-directed injunctions to get jabbed. The

Humanist Society pumped out pro-jab propaganda. GPs

vanished.

 

The heroic global resistance movement stood up to the

onslaught whilst the Left put on its muzzles, took the knee

and looked the other way. The Left played the role

allocated for it in the covid narrative – champions of the

‘People’s Lockdown’, the moral conscience ever vigilant

for signs of weakening of the state’s mitigation resolve,

sticking it to the bosses by staying at home, and reliably

excoriating resistance to the greatest ruling class

crimewave of modern times as racist and right wing.

I wonder how much of the dismal behaviour of Left

activists during the covid period can be ascribed simply to

adherence to outmoded patterns of thought or crude

credulousness. I am sorry to say that there is probably

something more sinister going on and that many Left

organisations and institutions have been captured by

hostile interests, and that there are individuals in

leadership or influencing positions who are not acting in

good faith. How else to explain the perverse strategies and

inexplicable campaigns?

 

This didn’t start with covid. It’s been going on for years.

Why is activist energy dissipated across so many causes?

Why are there so many ‘revolutionary’ groups? Why are

they all obsessed with single-issue campaigns and

sectional ‘liberation’ interests? Above all, why has the

Left never sustained a powerful political challenge to the

apex parasite of our world, the banking and finance

system, in the presence of which all other considerations

melt into air?

 

Lord Acton is supposed to have said that:

 

The issue which has swept down the

centuries and which will have to be fought

sooner or later is the people versus the

banks.

 

If we add at the end ‘and the entire apparatus of the

biosecurity state’ there is no better expression of the task

facing the global resistance movement. What is to be done

about the Left’s role in this movement? The fact we need

to ask whether the Left has a role to play in a global

working-class insurrection probably renders that question

redundant.
